Patient Admin Officer (Ophthalmic Department) – Full-Time, Excluding weekends (5 days in 7)

We are looking to expand our team at York Teaching Hospital and have exciting opportunities within our Ophthalmic Department to join the busily growing Administration Team as a Patient Admin Officer.
About The Role
You will be required to provide a reliable and effective administrative and clerical support service to internal and external users. This role involves daily communication with colleagues from a variety of professions, including both clinical and non-clinical staff.
About You
This is a diverse role we’re seeking a highly motivated, well-organised, patient-focused individual capable of working both as part of a team and independently. Key attributes and skills include:
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with clinical and non-clinical staff
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads independently
- Pro-active initiative without sacrificing accuracy or confidentiality
- Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced, varied workload
Hours & flexibility: Working 5 days in 7, including rostered weekends (covering both Saturdays and Sundays). Part-time or job-sharing arrangements may also be considered to suit flexible applications.

Key Responsibilities
Core Duties & Tasks:
- Maintain front-of-office operations on a busy reception desk
- Administer referrals through the electronic booking system (E-Referrals)
- Monitor, update, and resolve timely action on electronic worklists through remedial follow-ups when required
- Strict protocol in confidentiality regarding patient data
- Assisting patients with verbal and face-to-face queries, ensuring clarity and support
- Adhering to agreed appointment booking timescales, respecting consultant requests
- Scheduling follow-up appointments according to established booking rules
- Completing consultant worklists to meet exact requirements
- Checking patients in and out of clinic efficiently and accurately
