Patient Care Tech CNA Surgical PRN

Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner, assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Additionally, this position may include responsibilities typically handled by a Health Unit Coordinator.

This position requires a Colorado CNA license and a BLS Certification.


Duties & Responsibilities

Core Patient Care Support

  • Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including:
    • Toileting, bathing, linen/clothing changes
    • Providing fresh water/ice, ambulation, comfort measures
    • Addressing patient/family requests with excellent customer service
  • Report patient care findings/data in a timely manner and communicate changes in patient condition swiftly.
  • Secure qualified assistance as needed for emergent situations.

Clinical and Procedural Support

  • Perform telemetry duties as required based on unit needs.
    • Monitor patients, address care needs, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
    • Transport medications from delivery systems to the RN as needed on clinical units.
  • Implement and adhere to delegated plans of care within scope of practice.
  • Execute specialized procedures with validated skill and compliance with regulatory standards.

Health Unit Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Function as a Health Unit Coordinator, including:
    • Answering phones, transcribing physician orders, and managing unit records
    • Organizing, stocking, and maintaining unit supplies

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure a safe environment through compliance with safety protocols and emergency response.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and regulatory adherence.

Skills & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in Colorado
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (for healthcare providers)
  • Demonstrated computer literacy for charting and assessment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous CNA or healthcare experience.
  • Proficiency in patient education and basic nursing embryology processes.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Visual requirements: Frequent reading, assessing patient needs, and monitoring equipment/labels.
  • Interpersonal interactions: Regular communication with staff, patients, and families—actively Listen for alarms, updates, and urgent needs, especially during emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity: Handling complex medical devices, typing documentation, and managing medications.
  • Mobility requirements:
    • Lifting/carrying: Move patients (full range of motion), retrieve supplies (varying weights), and transport equipment (including heavy items).
    • Walk/ambulate: Transport patients, push/pull gurneys, navigate through cluttered hospital spaces.
    • Prolonged standing: Extended stationary periods in the workplace.
  • Driving: (when applicable) Operating a hospital or patient-care vehicle; visibility and focused attention on traffic/surveillance needs.

Posting Details

‍Hourly Range

$18.40 – $23.92 (compensation dependent on experience)

Eligibility: Benefit-eligible Schedule:

  • Part-time – Per Diem (PRN)
  • Day shift only (1 weekend in an 8-week cycle, occasional winter/summer holidays)
  • Location: St Mary’s Regional Hospital – Grand Junction, Colorado
