Patrol Officer I
Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Chief of Police, performs a variety of police and law enforcement activities. Tasks are service and protection oriented, and include collecting and dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, providing assistance, protecting and recovering property, preventing crime, investigating, and providing other public protection services. Incumbents perform duties in accordance with State statutes, City ordinances and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. Performs other related work as required or assigned. The position requires working different shifts, special assignments, and working weekends and holidays when assigned or required by shift scheduling.

Required Licenses Or Certification
Applicants must currently hold a permanent Texas Peace Officer License, Basic Proficiency Certificate, or higher, issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers (TCOLE).
Basic Minimum Education And Experience
A high school diploma or GED, or twelve (12) hours of accredited college or university education required. Two (2) consecutive years of experience with another Texas law enforcement agency as a paid police officer or Two (2) years of military service with honorable discharge preferred, but not mandatory. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Texas driver's license.
Physical And Psychological Qualifications
An applicant who is given a conditional offer of employment shall be required to take and pass a thorough background check, a medical examination, a psychological exam, and a drug screening by physicians designated by the City.
Salary And Benefits
- $63,565.00 + (DOQ) annually, paid bi-weekly (every other Friday)
- TCOLE certificate stipend as follows:
- Intermediate Certificate: $900 annually, paid bi-monthly.
- Advanced Certificate: $1,500 annually, paid bi-monthly.
- Master Certificate: $1,800 annually, paid bi-monthly.
- $5,000 signing bonus for qualified applicants with minimum 2 years experience.
- Full medical/dental benefits, 95% City paid premiums for employees and 70% for eligible dependents.
- Ten paid Holidays plus 2 "floating holidays" per year.
- Two weeks (80 hours) per year of paid vacation accrued per year.
- Paid sick leave accrued at a rate of 12 hours per month (144 hours/year)
- Longevity Pay of $5.00 per month, per year of service, paid annually in December after the completion of one year of service.
- Participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS), 7% contribution, City match at 2 to 1.
- City-provided Life Insurance at three times your annual salary.
- A supplemental death benefit for active TMRS employees equal to one-year salary; premiums paid by the City.
- Optional deferred compensation retirement benefits are offered to employees through MissionSquare retirement fund, at the employees cost.
