Payments Manager

A fast-growing global digital platform is seeking an experienced Payments Manager to join its Finance and Operations function.

This role sits at the centre of the business's payments ecosystem and is responsible for maintaining operational resilience, managing payment partners, improving transaction performance, and driving initiatives that enhance the customer payment experience.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused position suited to someone who enjoys managing complex payment infrastructures while identifying opportunities to improve conversion, efficiency, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

Payment Operations

  • Manage day-to-day payment operations and ensure the stability and effectiveness of payment workflows.
  • Streamline processes and enhance operational efficiency across the payments function.
  • Monitor and respond to payment issues to minimise disruption.

Payment Partner Management

  • Manage relationships with a network of payment service providers and external partners.
  • Collaborate with vendors to resolve issues, support integrations, and identify growth opportunities.

Payment Performance Optimisation

  • Analyse transaction data and implement initiatives to improve payment performance and authorisation rates.
  • Support revenue growth through continuous optimisation of payment processes.

Data & Reporting

  • Partner with internal analytics and technology teams to enhance reporting capabilities and payment insights.
  • Help define key payment metrics and support improvements to data infrastructure.

Project Delivery

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives involving finance, engineering, compliance, and external partners.
  • Deliver projects that improve scalability, efficiency, and customer experience.

Market & Industry Awareness

  • Stay informed on developments in payments, fintech, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the organisation's long-term payments strategy.

Requirements

Experience

  • 5+ years' experience in payments, acquiring, or e-commerce payment processing.
  • Experience working within large-scale online businesses or payment organisations is preferred.
  • Exposure to complex or regulated environments would be advantageous.

Technical & Industry Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of card payments, payment networks, and alternative payment methods.
  • Awareness of emerging payment technologies and industry trends.

Analytical Skills

  • Strong commercial and analytical mindset.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Experience with BI or reporting tools is advantageous.

Project Management

  • Proven track record delivering business-critical initiatives and managing multiple priorities.

Stakeholder Management

  • Ability to build effective relationships with external providers and internal teams including engineering, finance, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Personal Attributes

  • Highly organised and resilient.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and driven by continuous improvement.
