The Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Payment Scheme Compliance Manager to establish and lead our scheme compliance function. This is a role with a high degree of autonomy, responsible for designing and implementing processes to ensure compliance with multiple payment scheme rules across our European portfolio. Initially operating as a standalone role, there is potential to expand the team with additional resources within 12–18 months.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and manage a robust compliance process or a diverse portfolio of European payment methods, each with its own set of scheme rules.
- Develop efficient processes to ingest, interpret, and monitor scheme rule changes, ensuring the business remains fully compliant.
- Act as the subject matter expert on scheme rules, providing guidance and training to internal teams.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure rule changes are operationalised effectively.
- Maintain proactive relationships with payment schemes to stay ahead of upcoming changes, requirements, and potential impacts.
- Identify, escalate, and manage compliance risks, including the ability to challenge or lobby against rules where necessary to protect commercial and operational interests.
- Build the function’s infrastructure, including documentation, monitoring tools, and reporting frameworks.
- Support the long-term growth of the scheme compliance function by defining resource requirements and onboarding future team members.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
