Agentic AI Engineer

Fintech | Hybrid (UK)

A custom product engineering company delivering bespoke solutions to multinational organisations and scaling startups is seeking an Expert Agentic AI Engineer to join their high-impact, tech consulting team in the UK.

Project Overview

Our client is the recognised operator and standards body for the UK’s interbank retail payment systems, managing critical infrastructure for Bacs, Faster Payments, and the Image Clearing System. With billions of transactions annualised worth over £7 trillion, this role will contribute to an transformative initiative focusing on:

  • Enterprise-wide digital transformation and generative AI-powered automation.
  • Developing scalable, secure, and highly regulated AI architectures integrating core payment systems with advanced ML/NLP, data engineering, and intelligent automation frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

AI/ML Development & Implementation

  • Design, build, train, and deploy high-performance production-grade Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or NLP models.
  • Optimise models for enterprise-grade latency, throughput, and security, ensuring seamless data warehousing and automation integration.

Data & Architecture Collaboration

  • Partner with Data Engineers to orchestrate secure, high-quality data pipelines, feature stores, and scalable preprocessing routines.
  • Engineering automated workflows with robotic process automation (RPA) tools to enable agency and autonomous execution.

MLOps & Enterprise Governance

  • Architect and scale MLOps pipelines for:
    • Model lineage tracking
    • Automated validation gates
    • Continuous deployment & GitOps frameworks
  • Establish enterprise-wide AI Build Systems for toolflow orchestration, deployment observability, and compliance.

Technical Leadership

  • [Expert Level Focus] Define strategic AI engineering direction for cross-team squads, evaluating cutting-edge AI methodologies.
  • Mentor senior and junior colleagues, fostering innovation excellence within a regulated financial services environment.

Requirements

Experience

  • 5+ years (Senior) or 8+ years (Expert): Shipping and maintaining ML/NLP models in production environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with AI agentic frameworks, including:
    • Microsoft Copilot Studio or LangChain/Semantic Kernels for orchestrating fully autonomous, plugin-aware workflows.
    • Prompt flow & LLMs, enabling ad-hoc reasoning, multi-agent coordination, and real-time knowledge augmentation.

Technical Proficiency

  • Azure AI Foundry expertise: Deploying and fine-tuning generative AI stacks (CogSweep, Fluxion, Prompt Lakes, Foundation Models).
  • Security hardened LLM integration: Connecting models to enterprise APIs, private data sources, and external autonomous agents.
  • Toolchain mastery: Proficiency with continuous deployment frameworks (Kinality, Grafana, Beam) and MLOps platforms (MLflow, Kubeflow, Kaggle DNG, TensorFlow Enterprise).
  • Programming:
    • Elite Python development with libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, LazyFlow).
    • Deep knowledge of CS fundamentals (data structures, cryptographic algorithms, NP-hard optimisation).

Preferences

  • Formal degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a highly quantitative discipline (Statistics, Quantitative Finance).
