Payments Officer

Location: Hybrid (2 days per week in our Bowburn, Durham Office)

Working Hours: 37 per week

Contract Type: Fixed Term (until 31st March 2027)

Salary: £25,877.80 – £34,240.03 Note: The salary represents full earning potential. Starting salaries depend on experience and progression.

The Role: Payments Officer

We’re seeking an experienced and proactive Payments Officer to join our Finance Operations team. Key responsibilities include:

Payments & Finance Operations

  • Process financial transactions and payments accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Conduct reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Manage supplier accounts, including records maintenance and aged analysis.
  • Process workforce expenses and collaborate with internal audit checks.
  • Handle credit card requests and queries per service level agreements.
  • Respond to payments service desk queries, ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Support month-end processes and reporting requirements.

Requirements

We’re looking for:

  • Experience in an Accounts Payable function
  • Strong understanding of accounting procedures
  • Excellent numeracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and relationship-building
  • Independent problem-solving with ownership of tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
