Payroll Administrator

Payroll Administrator – Salford Quays, Manchester

Hybrid role | Permanent | Full-time (37.5 hrs/week)

About the Role

As a Payroll Administrator, you will ensure that all employees in designated Business Units receive accurate, on-time payments, compliant with statutory legislation and company policy. Your role ensures:

  • No material audit issues
  • Compliance with customer service principles
  • Smooth, uninterrupted payroll operations

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing & Compliance

    • Process all payroll information from employees, managers, and external sources within agreed deadlines
    • Ensure all transactions are authorised and align with company policy
    • Monitor and comply with new legislation, processes, and payroll policies
  • Employee Support & Communications

    • Handle employee queries regarding:
      • Expense claims
      • Payslip access
      • Salary payments
    • Manage central email inquiries from employees and external bodies
  • Data Entry & Administrative Tasks

    • Input data for sickness records, P45s, payments, deductions, job changes, and salary adjustments
    • Validate expenses submitted via the PeopleSoft Expenses module where applicable

  • Continuous Improvement

    • Actively pursue personal development (apprenticeship training, mandatory learning)
    • Proactively support and suggest improvements to payroll operations
    • Assist in Payroll Operations tasks as directed by the Pay Services Manager
  • Ad-hoc Support

    • Provide additional administrative assistance as needed by the Pay Services Manager

Requirements

  • Previous experience in payroll operations and an understanding of payroll legislation
  • Office experience, teamwork, and proficiency with computerised systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to show empathy when solving complex queries
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Computerised payroll software (preferably ResourceLink)
    • Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) data input
