Payroll Administrator

Location: Salford Quays, Manchester

Working Arrangements: Hybrid working options, Minimum of 1 day a week in the office

Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hrs per week)

Salary: £26,000 - £29,000 per annum, plus fantastic benefits

Role Overview

As a Payroll Administrator, you will guarantee that all employees in the designated Business Units are paid correctly, on time, and in accordance with both statutory legislation and company policy. You’ll also ensure no material audit issues arise, while maintaining the principles of customer service.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide support to employees in relation to:
    • Expense claims
    • Payslip access
    • Salary payment queries
  • Perform data entry for the following:
    • Sickness leave
    • P45 filings
    • Payments, deductions, job changes, and rate adjustments
  • Respond to employee inquiries and external bodies via a central email account.
  • Process all payroll information received from employees, managers, and external bodies within agreed deadlines, ensuring:
    • All transactions are authorised
    • Adherence to company policy
  • Verify expenses submitted through the PeopleSoft Expenses module
  • Ensure new policies, procedures, and legislative changes are upheld while minimising disruption to payroll operations.
  • Respond to online cases promptly or escalate to a Payroll Specialist as necessary.
  • Actively manage continual professional development, including completing mandatory learning and any apprenticeship-based training.
  • Proactively support change initiatives and improvements to enhance the Payroll Service.
  • Learn and assist in areas of Payroll Operations as instructed by the Pay Services Manager.
  • Support any ad-hoc duties assigned by the Pay Services Manager.

What You’ll Bring

  • Previous experience in payroll operations and legislation
  • Experience working:
    • In an office environment
    • As part of a team
    • Using computerised systems for data input
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to demonstrate sensitivity and understanding when required.
  • Working experience, skills, and knowledge of computerised payroll applications, preferably ResourceLink.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
