Role: Payroll Assistant

We're looking for an experienced Payroll Assistant to join our expanding team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong payroll background to play a key role in delivering high quality payroll services across a diverse client base. If you have experience in a payroll bureau or an in-house payroll setting, we'd love to hear from you!

Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate and timely processing of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls
  • Processing complex payrolls
  • Uploading payslips and other payroll documentation to our payroll software
  • Performing end-to-end payroll processing including data entry, validation, and reconciliation of payrolls
  • Preparing and reviewing payroll reports for clients, including variance analysis and audit trails
  • Submitting Real Time Information (RTI) reports and other statutory filings to HMRC accurately and on time
  • Uploading pension contributions to relevant pension providers and managing compliance with auto-enrolment requirements
  • Advising clients on PAYE liabilities, pension deductions, employee benefits, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), and tax codes
  • Administering and advising on Earnings Arrestments and Attachment of Earnings Orders in line with legal requirements
  • Reporting and recoverable statutory payments and Apprenticeship Levy to HMRC
  • Manual Calculations on all elements (Tax, NIC, Director NIC, Student Loan, Earnings Arrestment’s & Pensions)
  • We are an approved BACS Bureau – we are responsible for making salary & PAYE payments on behalf of our clients each month, by the required dates
  • CIS – Preparation and submission of monthly CIS Returns and CIS Suffered submissions to HMRC
  • Building effective and long-term working relationships with each of your client

  • Proven experience working in a payroll bureau or busy payroll department handling multiple payrolls
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC regulations, including RTI, auto-enrolment, statutory payments and CIS
  • Proficiency in cloud-based payroll systems with the ability to learn other systems if required
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to manage data sets, use formulas, and create reports
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all aspects of payroll processing
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll matters to clients in a clear and professional manner
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload and meet strict deadlines
