We are looking for a Payroll Assistant Trainee to join our friendly and supportive Payroll team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong numeracy skills, good attention to detail and a genuine interest in learning how payroll works in practice.
You will be supported by an experienced team while working with a varied portfolio of clients, helping to ensure payrolls are processed accurately, deadlines are met and clients receive excellent service.
Experience in payroll would be helpful, but it is not essential. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to developing a long term career.
About The Role
As a Payroll Assistant Trainee, you will assist with the management of a varied client payroll portfolio, helping to deliver an accurate, efficient and high quality payroll service.
This is a hands on trainee role where you will learn how payroll works in practice, while being supported by an experienced and friendly team. You will gain experience across weekly, monthly and annual payrolls, pensions, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) submissions and client communication.
Your Role Will Include
- Processing weekly, monthly and annual payroll and pension schemes accurately and to a high standard
- Inputting wages information and producing payslips and reports for employers
- Uploading pension files and submitting information to HMRC
- Acting as a first point of contact for clients and responding to payroll queries in a clear and timely manner
- Opening and closing payroll and pension schemes with the relevant bodies
- Supporting Construction Industry Scheme processing for contractors and subcontractors
- Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and other third parties
- Maintaining accurate computer records and ensuring client data is secure at all times
- Planning, managing and prioritising your own workload to meet deadlines
- Communicating clearly with your line manager and wider team
- Supporting improvements to systems and processes across the department

This is a trainee role, so you will not be expected to know everything from day one. You will be given support, training and guidance to help you grow in confidence and develop your technical knowledge.
