Payroll Coordinator
About The Payroll Coordinator Role
We're looking for a Payroll Coordinator to join our People & Culture team. This is a hands-on, payroll processing role where you'll support the delivery of the monthly UK payroll, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
Working closely with HR colleagues, managers, and our external payroll provider, you'll:
- Process payroll transactions
- Maintain employee records
- Respond to payroll queries
- Ensure compliance with UK legislation and company policies
Responsibilities
As our Payroll Coordinator, you'll provide day-to-day payroll administration support and ensure accurate processing throughout the employee lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
Payroll Processing & Compliance
- Processing new starters, leavers, and contractual changes, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Preparing, validating, and submitting payroll information to our external payroll provider.
- Reviewing payroll reports and verifying payroll data before approval.

Adjustments & Deductions
- Preparing overtime, holiday pay, statutory payments, salary changes, and other payroll adjustments.
- Processing statutory and voluntary deductions, including:
- Pensions
- Salary exchange
- Union subscriptions
- Staff sales
- Private mileage
- Managing leave-related payments (e.g., sickness, maternity, paternity, adoption, parental, and unpaid leave) in line with company policies.
Record-Keeping & Compliance
- Maintaining accurate employee records within HR and payroll systems.
- Supporting National Minimum Wage compliance checks.
- Assisting with payroll reporting, month-end activities, tax year-end processing, P11D administration, and regulatory reporting.
Reporting & Support
- Producing payroll reports for HR, Finance, and managers as needed.
- Acting as the first point of contact for payroll queries, providing professional, accurate, and timely responses to employees and managers.
- Supporting employee overpayment recovery according to company policy.
- Providing administrative support to the wider People & Culture team during peak periods or team absences.

Requirements
We’re seeking a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in delivering outstanding payroll services. Ideal candidates will have:
Technical & Professional Experience
- Previous experience in a payroll processing or administrative role.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, statutory payments, and payroll processes.
- Familiarity with payroll and HR systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
Key Skills
- Attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills with the capability to handle sensitive payroll queries.
- Strong organizational skills and aptitude for collaborative teamwork.
