Payroll Officer

Payroll Officer – Dive Operations (DiveOps)


How You Can Make Your Mark

Make your mark as a Payroll Officer at Boskalis! Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you’ll ensure the group’s Dive Operations (DiveOps) workforce is paid accurately and on time while adhering to PAYE and foreign tax legislation. You’ll also handle auto enrolment, statutory reporting, and policy/procedural controls, while supporting the Payroll Manager and teams across the UK and abroad.


Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • End-to-end payroll administration: Process payroll for DiveOps, collating, calculating, and recording data—either manually or via file upload—from multiple systems.
  • Global tax support: Guide junior Payroll Officers on tax tracking for internationally mobile employees on the DiveOps payroll.
  • Compliance assurance: Review and approve payroll records from various sources (including Onboard Tracker) to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulations for applicable jurisdictions.
  • Deadline-driven processing: Submit payroll data to relevant stakeholders on legislative and company deadlines, accounting for overseas time differences and national holidays.
  • Employee lifecycle support:
    • Handle payroll for new hires (UK and international nationals), retirements, terminations, salary changes, benefits adjustments, taxes, salary sacrifices, deductions, and accruals.
    • Assist with foreign tax calculations as needed.
  • Data integrity & system management:
    • Maintain accuracy in payroll systems and interfaced sources (e.g., integrated databases).
    • Liaise with the Offshore Energy division to adapt to legislative/payroll processing changes.
  • Team coordination:
    • Support the offshore payroll team by addressing employee queries and providing in-depth responses.
    • Collaborate globally to facilitate employee mobilization with accurate financial information.
  • Financial reconciliations:
    • Reconcile payroll control accounts and cost recharges.
  • Flexible support:
    • Perform other administrative duties for local and offshore payroll/finance teams.
    • Act as an escalation point and cover for the Payroll Manager when absent.

Required Knowledge & Experience

Two or more years of full-time payroll preparation/processing experience, with at least:

  • One year or more working on large, complex international payrolls.
  • Ideally, a payroll qualification (CIPP, vocational certificate, or in progress).
  • Preferred experience:
    • Overseas tax tracking and hypo-tax calculations.
    • Working with high-volume data manipulation, foreign currency conversions.
    • Control account reconciliations.

Key Competencies

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and payroll-specific software for data import, analysis, and organisation.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, able to prioritise under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication—verbal and written—with management, teams, and stakeholders (domestic/international).
  • Autonomous worker: Relies on self-directed problem-solving during high-pressure periods.
  • Ability to adapt promptly when deadlines shift or priorities change.
