Salary: $78,259 to $82,063 (pending experience) + 12.75% superannuation

Your Role
An exciting role exists to join the team at Catholic Education Office in the position of Payroll Officer, for immediate commencement. This is a full-time contract position until 11 July 2027 with the possibility of extension, based in Rockhampton.
The role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional or a motivated administrator seeking to develop specialist payroll expertise, with ongoing learning, support and exposure to a diverse range of payroll, compliance and employee related processes.
The successful applicant will have strong administrative and organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities. Experience in payroll administration and knowledge of payroll systems, superannuation, taxation, awards and industrial agreements will be highly regarded; however, applicants with a strong administrative background and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
The position requires the accurate processing and maintenance of payroll and employee records, responding to enquiries and preparing employment-related documentation, while ensuring compliance with CEDR policies, procedures and legislative requirements.

- Answering high volume telephone calls, emails and requests for payroll information.
- Prepare and process payroll data from timesheets for all schools on a fortnightly basis.
- Setup new employees within the electronic payroll system CHRIS (Computerised Human Resource Information System).
- Maintain and update payroll records within CHRIS (Computerised Human Resource Information System).
- Provide advice to employees regarding queries of individual pays.
- Communicate with schools in relation to the provision of payroll advice in the areas of payroll preparation and payroll inquiries.
- Complete employee classifications in line with relevant awards and industrial agreements.
- Process and enter staff leave applications, ensuring applications are within guidelines and entitlements.

About You
The successful applicant will have:
- An understanding of, and a commitment to, the values of Catholic Education.
- Strong administrative skills, with experience in payroll, finance, human resources or a related field highly regarded.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive employee information.
- Experience using payroll and HR information systems, such as CHRIS21, and Microsoft Office applications, or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems.
- Knowledge of payroll processes, employment conditions, awards and industrial agreements, or a willingness to develop this expertise.
- Excellent organisational, communication and service-oriented skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, with a flexible approach and commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Mandatory Requirements
- A current valid Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (WWC Act) and valid Suitability Notice is a requirement of the position.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner, including some travel to schools within the Diocese.
