Description
We are currently seeking a Payroll & Pensions Administrator (part-time, flexible 18.5 hours per week, with at least 1 day per week in the office). This role involves:
- Using MHR’s iTrent system for payroll processing
- Full processing of gross-to-net payroll for up to 2,200 staff
- Administration of defined benefit pensions
About the Role
You will:
- Assist the Payroll and Pensions team in producing monthly payrolls while ensuring compliance with HMRC statutory deductions, payments, and reconciliations.
- Support complex payroll/pensions queries and continuously improve processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Contribute to system testing, reporting risks/issues to Payroll & Pensions Manager or IT as necessary.
- Assist with annual university audits.

Key responsibilities include: ✔ Timely production of employees’ wages and benefits. ✔ Managing HMRC-related payroll duties and payments. ✔ Improving underlying payroll and pension processes. ✔ Supporting system upgrades and functionality testing.
About You
Essential Requirements
- Extensive UK payroll experience
- Strong understanding of iTrent system
- Familiarity with defined benefit pension schemes
- Demonstrated ability in process improvement
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

Additional Details
- Contract: Part-time (0.5 FTE), 18.5 hours/week with on-site presence required at least 1 day/week.
- Salary range: Based on Grade 6. Starts at £16,975–£18,847 (annual), or £33,951–£37,694 pro rata.
Note: Standard appointment begins within the lower bracket unless significant prior experience is evidenced.
