About The Role

The Senior Payroll Specialist role is an integral part of our client's payroll team, based in Belfast, operating within a hybrid working environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to manage a diverse portfolio of UK payroll clients, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with statutory regulations. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for client queries, oversee complex payroll tasks including benefits and pension administration, and support the growth of the payroll service through excellent client relationship management. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical payroll knowledge and the ability to take full ownership of client accounts, delivering exceptional service and maintaining compliance standards.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in payroll processing, preferably within a bureau environment or accountancy practice. A strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, statutory deductions, benefits, and pension schemes is essential. Candidates with in-house payroll experience will also be considered. A CIPP qualification is preferred but not mandatory, as relevant experience and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple client accounts are highly valued. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are critical for success in this role. Candidates should also demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of UK payroll clients, ranging from small to large organizations with up to 700 employees.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all client payroll queries, providing expert advice and resolving issues promptly.
  • Oversee complex payroll tasks, including processing benefits, pensions, statutory deductions, and compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Administer weekly and monthly payroll runs accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Support business development initiatives by assisting with client retention, onboarding new clients, and identifying upselling opportunities.
  • Ensure all payroll processes adhere to legal and company standards, maintaining data confidentiality and security.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes affecting payroll processing and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless service delivery and continuous improvement of payroll procedures.
