Payroll Specialist
Location: Crawley Salary: Up to £38,000 Contract Type: 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) Working Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days in the office)
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with payroll experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is looking to join a supportive team in a well-established business.
About the Role
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for:
- Processing payroll accurately
- Responding to payroll queries via email, phone, and helpdesk tickets
- Preparing manual payments and verifying payroll data
- Calculating statutory payments, including:
- SSP (Statutory Sick Pay)
- SMP (Statutory Maternity Pay)
- SPP (Statutory Paternity Pay)
- Shared Parental Pay
- Collaborating closely with HR and Benefits teams to ensure payroll information is accurate
- Ensuring compliance with HMRC legislation and maintaining robust payroll processes

Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing
- Address and resolve payroll-related queries effectively
- Validate and prepare manual payments
- Calculate and manage statutory payments as needed
- Maintain strong communication with internal teams to verify payroll accuracy
- Keep up to date with HMRC statutory updates and payroll compliance regulations

Requirements
- Previous payroll experience within a medium or large organisation
- Solid knowledge of HMRC legislation and payroll processes
- Proficiency in Excel, including:
- Lookups
- Formulas
- Pivot tables
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong ability to meet deadlines
- Payroll qualification, or currently studying towards one, is desirable
- Previous Workday experience is considered a bonus
