Payroll Specialist

Salary: £35,000 Location: Manchester

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced payroll professional to join a growing organisation in a general payroll position. This role is ideal for someone with strong payroll knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering an accurate and efficient payroll service. Working as part of a supportive team, you will ensure employees are paid accurately and on time while providing excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering accurate payroll processing while ensuring compliance with UK payroll legislation and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing payroll accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Maintaining employee payroll records and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Calculating statutory payments, deductions, pensions, overtime, bonuses, and payroll adjustments.
  • Processing new starters, leavers, salary changes, and other employee updates.
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements, pension regulations, and company procedures.
  • Reconciling payroll data and resolving discrepancies.
  • Responding to payroll-related queries from employees and managers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end payroll activities, reporting, and audits.
  • Working closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll information is accurate.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiency.

What You’ll Bring

To be successful, you will have previous payroll experience and a solid understanding of payroll processes and UK legislation. You will be highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.

Ideally:

  • Previous experience working in payroll.
  • Good knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax, National Insurance, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Experience using payroll systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
  • The ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • A payroll qualification, such as CIPP, would be beneficial but is not essential.
