The Role
Direct Medics is seeking an experienced high-energy Payroll Specialist to join our Payroll Team. Unlike standard corporate payroll, you will manage a high-volume, weekly payroll for a diverse workforce of Doctors, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).
Responsibilities
Complex Pay & Compliance
- Manage high-volume weekly payroll for temporary and "Bank" staff.
- Process complex pay elements including unsocial hours, weekend enhancements and on-call allowances.
- Ensure strict adherence to Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) in the UK and the Protection of Employees (Fixed-Term Work) Act in Ireland.
- Holiday payments and tracking
- Statutory payments and deductions
- Pension calculations and reporting
- Reconciliation of payroll for month-end reports
- Providing advice on tax, NI, SMP, pensions and other payroll matters
- Monthly expenses checking and processing
- Responding to payroll and expense enquiries
- Keeping up to date with payroll legislation
- Oversee UK IR35 assessments for locum doctors and contractors to ensure correct tax treatment (Inside vs. Outside IR35).

Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years processing payroll in a high-volume environment.
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based payroll solutions
- Strong grasp of UK PAYE/RTI systems, with specific knowledge of Umbrella Company compliance and "Off-payroll" working rules.
- Proven ability to process payroll for 500+ temporary workers weekly with high accuracy.

- ROI Payroll Experience
- Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex financial information clearly and concisely.
