Payroll Specialist | Workday | UK

London / Kent boarder
£50-55,000 + package

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join its growing team and take ownership of payroll across its UK businesses. This is an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional who is passionate about accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement, and who is looking to play a key role in transforming payroll operations within a global organisation.

Reporting to the UK HR Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end payroll processing across multiple UK entities. Working with Workday as the system of record, they will collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers to ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in full compliance with UK legislation. They will also support audits, resolve payroll queries, and help deliver an outstanding employee experience.

The Payroll Specialist will act as the organisation's payroll subject matter expert, driving process improvements, optimising Workday functionality, reducing manual interventions, and supporting the consolidation of multiple payrolls into a streamlined managed service. They will play a significant role in standardising payroll processes and ensuring robust governance and controls are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing end-to-end payroll processing across multiple UK entities.
  • Collaborating with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Supporting audits, resolving payroll queries, and enhancing the employee experience.
  • Acting as the payroll subject matter expert, driving process improvements, and optimizing Workday functionality.
  • Reducing manual interventions and supporting the consolidation of multiple payrolls.
  • Standardising payroll processes and ensuring robust governance and controls.

Requirements

  • Proven end-to-end UK payroll experience.
  • Strong understanding of HMRC, PAYE, pensions, and statutory requirements.
  • Practical experience of Workday.
  • Highly organised, analytical, and confident in building relationships with stakeholders across the business.
  • Experience of outsourced payroll providers, payroll transformation projects, mergers and acquisitions, or a CIPP qualification would be advantageous.
