Payroll Team Leader

Payroll Team Leader – Job Description

As a Payroll Team Leader at Samworth Brothers, you’ll take an active role in ensuring all company payrolls are processed accurately, on time, and in line with legislation and internal controls. If you’re passionate about supporting and developing your team—driving high-quality service delivery—this could be the next step in your career.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, process, and manage weekly and monthly payrolls with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, NIC, HMRC submissions, and all statutory payments.
  • Audit data quality and maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll documentation.
  • Calculate and process holiday, sick pay, statutory payments, profit share, and pension deductions.
  • Reconcile and balance payroll control accounts weekly/monthly.
  • Provide detailed payroll figures and reports to Finance teams.
  • Support Payroll Administrators by:
    • Setting priorities
    • Ensuring quality service delivery
    • Role-modelling high standards
  • Deputise for the Group Payroll Manager alongside the fellow Team Leader.
  • Drive continuous improvement, standardisation, and best practices across the payroll function.

About You

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ payroll experience.
  • Minimum 1 year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience with large or complex payroll structures preferred.
  • Familiarity with centralised payroll operations.

Desirable

  • Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) membership (not essential but welcomed).
