Location: Preston, Lancashire (Hybrid/Flexible working arrangements available – please discuss with your recruiter)
Salary: £48,000 – £52,000 (depending on experience)

Job Description
The Payroll Team Manager oversees payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across a large UK-wide team. You’ll lead a workforce of Payroll Advisors and Administrators, mentor high-performing teams, and champion best practices in payroll quality and regulatory compliance. With collaboration across HR, Finance, and business stakeholders, your role spans operational excellence, process improvement, and conflict resolution for complex payroll issues.
What You’ll Be Doing

Lead KPIs & Performance
- Own team and payroll performance metrics, ensuring accurate, on-time delivery of payrolls while enhancing quality standards.

Supportive Line Management
- Foster a motivated, high-performing team with mentoring, coaching, and development opportunities for Payroll Advisors and Administrators.

Ensure Payroll Accuracy & Compliance
- Oversee day-to-day payroll processes, validating adherence to statutory, regulatory, and corporate compliance standards.

Resolve Complex Payroll Queries
- Serve as the SME for intricate payroll issues, escalating challenges as needed and ensuring timely resolutions aligned with service levels.

Champion Continuous Improvement
- Promote innovation and process enhancements while fostering a culture of engagement, trust, and agility across the team.

Collaborate with Stakeholders
- Partner with HR, Finance, and business leads to support organisational transitions, projects, and payroll optimisations.

Audit & Compliance Support
- Embed robust controls for audits and compliance reviews, upholding the highest operational excellence.
Experience & Qualifications
- Specialist Payroll Experience
- Proven expertise in high-volume shared services payroll environments.
- ** Leadership with Impact**
- Extensive experience managing a large payroll team, with strong coaching and development skills.
- Regulatory Knowledge
- Deep understanding of UK payroll legislation, including awareness of evolving regulatory changes, and their operational impact.
- Technical Proficiency
- Familiarity with ResourceLink or comparable payroll/HR systems.
- Operational Adaptability
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ever-changing payroll landscape.
