Job Description – PDI Engineer
Location: Middlesbrough Depot
Territory: North East & Yorkshire
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented PDI Engineer to join our team based at our Middlesbrough depot, supporting customers across the North East and Yorkshire.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out high-quality Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI), preparation and commissioning of new construction equipment, ensuring every machine is delivered to the customer in excellent working order and to the highest manufacturer standards.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a range of industry-leading machinery, including:
- Excavators
- Loading Shovels
- Skid Steers
- Backhoe Loaders
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out comprehensive Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) on new machinery in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Prepare, inspect and commission new equipment prior to customer delivery.
- Install optional equipment, attachments and accessories where required.
- Conduct functional testing, calibrations and software updates.
- Identify, diagnose and rectify any faults or defects before delivery.
- Complete all inspection reports and documentation accurately and on time.
- Ensure machines meet company quality standards and manufacturer requirements.
- Liaise with the Parts and Service departments to resolve any issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Occasionally attend customer sites to carry out machine commissioning, demonstrations or warranty-related work.
- Represent the company professionally when dealing with customers and manufacturers.

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience working on construction, agricultural or plant machinery.
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and service information.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:
- Experience with excavators, loading shovels, skid steers or backhoe loaders.
- Manufacturer product training or recognised plant engineering qualifications.
- Familiarity with electronic diagnostic systems and OEM software.
- Forklift licence (advantageous).

Reporting To
Service Manager – Middlesbrough Depot
Hours of Work
Full-time 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime as required to meet customer demand.
