Are you a passionate and resilient PE Teacher looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people?
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in Ipswich, which provides a nurturing and supportive environment for pupils who require a personalised approach to learning. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher who believes in the power of sport and physical activity to improve confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing.
Job Purpose
To deliver engaging, inclusive and therapeutic Physical Education lessons that support the educational, social, emotional and mental health development of pupils with SEMH needs. The successful candidate will create a safe, structured learning environment where pupils can develop resilience, confidence, teamwork and physical wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality PE lessons tailored to the needs of students with SEMH.
- Adapt teaching methods and activities to suit a wide range of abilities, emotional needs and learning styles.
- Use physical activity and sport to promote emotional regulation, resilience, self-esteem and positive behaviour.
- Build positive, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils.
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Degree in Physical Education or a related subject.
- Experience teaching PE at secondary level.
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Ability to remain calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within an SEMH, SEND, Alternative Provision or specialist school.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches.
- Experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD or additional learning needs.
- Experience delivering outdoor education or enrichment programmes.
