ABOUT THE ROLE
In Dagenham East, UCL CEGE hosts two unique research environments: the Person-Environment-Activity Research Laboratory (PEARL) Welcome to PEARL | Person Environment Activity Research Laboratory - UCL - University College London, which investigates how people interact with their surroundings, and the Clean Active Ventilation Environments (CAVE) laboratory, focused on innovative ventilation systems. PEARL and CAVE are among the laboratories in the UK National Facility for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC). Housed in a £50M development in east London, PEARL fuses the arts, physical, clinical, life and engineering sciences, design and instrumentation in multisensorial environments constructed at 1:1 scale. CAVE is a large environmental chamber which allows investigation of simultaneous multiple ventilation environments to study how people respond to different temperature and humidity conditions.
- Provide technical support and assistance to all PEARL facility users and ensure that safety procedures are adhered to
- Operate mechanical handling and MEWP equipment (including pallet trucks, forklift trucks, skyjacks, cherrypickers etc. (training will be provided)
- Contribute to the smooth running of a highly dynamic laboratory by providing technical support as a member of the Making and Production team on all activities, with a lighting bias.
- Complete technical duties such as rigging, focusing and operating lighting, sound, olfaction, smoke, AV equipment, instrumentation, cameras, microphones etc.
- Deliver comprehensive training to students, UCL staff and external users in technical practices
- On-site First (working more than 80% of time on-site): 80%

An acceptable enhanced DBS check is required to carry out this role, and it will be reviewed on an annual basis.
ABOUT YOU
Key requirements of the role are:
- A relevant technical theatre qualification or equivalent experience
- An in-depth knowledge of Health and Safety issues within a theatre context and regulations such as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order/COSHH/LOLER/PUWER/Working at Height
- Experience working as a technician in theatre, events or similar arts-based role
- Experience of rigging, LX and audio operation
- Experience of ETC Eos family board
