Clinical Associate Physician – Primary Care
Department 10139 TheARC Pro Pay Range: $100,000.00 – $300,000.00
About the Role
Kids Are Our Everything. This position is within the Primary Care team at Children’s National Medical Center, dedicated to delivering exceptional, world-class care to pediatric patients.
Mission Statement
“The clinical associate physician is responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as advocacy and educational initiatives, as determined by the Division Chief and/or the Center leadership.”
Core Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Advocacy
- Provide ethical, professional, and timely clinical services for patients at Children’s Hospital and other approved sites.
- Maintain oversight of the medical care team; improve continuity of care, customer service, and partnerships with community medical providers.
- Communicate regularly with family-centered care, ensuring empathy, professionalism, and proactive medical referrals as needed.
- Complete necessary record-keeping and documentation to support seamless care transitions.
- Assume on-call duties as assigned by division leadership.
- Comply with chain-of-command policies and escalate concerns as required.
Educational Leadership
- Actively participate in hospital/university-wide educational programs.
- Provide timely feedback and adequate orientation to trainees on patient care.
- Effectively supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and students in a subspecialty.

Quality, Compliance & Advocacy
- Uphold quality improvement objectives, infection control standards, and JCAHO regulations.
- Contribute to scholarly work advancing public policy for pediatric health.
- Educate patients and families on prevention, treatment, and care enhancement.
- Participate in health promotion programs and special care initiatives.
- Comply with policy development and collaborate on protocol reviews, medical committee work, and team-based care plans.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure complete, accurate clinical charge documentation as required by regulations.
- Identify gaps in patient care and recommend improvement strategies.
- Actively participate in medical error reduction efforts.
Requirements
Education & Credentials
- Medical Doctor (M.D.) from an accredited medical school (Required)
- Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Primary Care specialty (Required)
Licenses & Certifications
- Fully licensed and attending staff physician credentialed at Children’s National Medical Center (Required)
Experience & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of medical principles, legal standards, and ethical practice in Primary Care.
- Ability to evaluate patient conditions independently and strategise care plans.
- Commitment to ethical clinical decision-making and communication with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Supervisory skills to train and mentor clinical professionals and trainees.
- Strong dedication to Continuing Medical Education (CME) and advancements in pediatric medicine.
