Peer Support Worker in Perinatal Mental Health

About the Role
Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Peer Support Worker within Perinatal Mental Health, leveraging your lived experience to create a meaningful impact on women and families across the West of Scotland. Based within the Mother and Baby Unit, you will provide compassionate, recovery-focused support before, during, and after hospital care, helping individuals navigate their journey with hope.
This role is a unique and important opportunity where your personal journey becomes a powerful tool for empowerment. You will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, contributing to services that prioritise individualised recovery. Duration: Permanent (Pro Rata for part-time) Location: Leverndale Hospital Hours: Part-time (18 hours per week) Working Pattern: Variable Monday–Friday shifts, rotating Sundays when needed

Core Responsibilities
- Support individuals in identifying and working towards personal recovery goals
- Build trusting, empathetic relationships with service users and their families
- Draw on lived experience to inspire hope, reinforce resilience, and support recovery journeys
- Help individuals overcome barriers and connect with community resources
- Accompany patients to appointments, activities and multidisciplinary meetings as needed
- Contribute to developing recovery-focused and peer support practices within the team
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Essential:
- Proven lived experience of perinatal mental health recovery and the ability to discuss this confidently and holistically
- Awareness of recovery-oriented approaches and factors that support positive mental health outcomes
- Previous experience in a supportive or empowering role (informal, community, or professional structures)
- Strong communication and active listening skills, with a compassionate, non-judgmental, and respectful approach
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building therapeutic partnerships
- Basic IT literacy and commitment to ongoing training and development
- Flexible and resilient mindset to adapt to the demands of mental health care support
