This apprenticeship offers hands-on experience in pension administration, including payroll processing, benefit calculations, and client communication. You’ll develop valuable financial and customer service skills while working on real projects, making a meaningful impact on people’s retirement planning.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Communicating with clients, their members and advisers via email, letter, and telephone
  • Process client pension payrolls, including calculations of net pay, arranging payments, liaising with tax offices and preparation of year end returns
  • The preparation of computer-generated benefit calculations and related correspondence
  • Attending team meetings to understand the priorities and offering support as required
  • Plus, lots more, including interesting project work

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Deliver expected customer service establishing customer needs, in line with the service standards and the regulatory framework.
  • Deliver pensions administrative tasks that meet required the quality standards as set out by the organisation.
  • Tailor the use of interpersonal skills and communication channels to meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Work in a team and collaborate to support colleagues to achieve results such as meeting or exceeding service standards and organisational goals.
  • Plan, manage and prioritise own workload effectively.
  • Identify pension problems, identify the appropriate course of action and suggest or support solutions.
  • Use digital systems to carry out pensions administrative tasks and generate key metrics such as performance information.
  • Use digital systems and applications safely and securely, in accordance with data security policies.
  • Calculate member benefits accurately and apply the terms of the relevant pension scheme or plan.
  • Maintain robust and accurate schedules, records and systems of pension administrative activities.

Training schedule

All training will be delivered remotely with our provider as you work toward the Workplace Pensions Administrator Level 3 qualification.

You’ll be supported by a skills coach, mentors, and line managers, learning our systems and gaining the knowledge to advise clients and communicate confidently.

Our training provider is a specialist in workplace pensions education, delivering high-quality remote learning tailored to the industry. The course is structured into modules covering pension legislation, payroll processes, and member communication. You’ll progress through interactive sessions, assessments, and practical tasks, ensuring you gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:
at least 5 including English & Maths (grade 4 (C) and above)

Desirable qualifications

A Level in:
Any Subject (grade C)

T Level in:
Any Subject (grade C)

BTEC in:
Any Subject (grade Pass, Merit or Distinction)
