Pension Governance Executive
Pensions Governance Executive – Join DHL Group
Are you an experienced pensions professional with a passion for governance, risk management, and ESG initiatives? Join DHL Group—one of the world’s leading logistics companies—as we shape the future of pension governance and sustainability.
This is an exciting hybrid role (based in Bedford, transitioning to Milton Keynes from January 2027) with 1–2 days per week office attendance. Job Purpose
As the Pensions Governance Executive, you will support the management, governance, and regulatory compliance of one of the UK’s largest pension arrangements. Your role will focus on leading the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Committee (ESGC), driving strategic projects, and ensuring robust governance, sustainable investment practices, and stakeholder alignment across the scheme.
You will work closely with:
- Trustee Boards
- Senior stakeholders
- Investment advisers & partners
- ESG specialists
Key Goal: Deliver high standards of governance, risk management, and long-term sustainability to underpin the scheme’s strategic success.
Key Responsibilities
1. Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Leadership
- Lead the Environmental, Social & Governance Committee (ESGC), ensuring it meets its governance and compliance obligations.
- Drive the Plan’s ESG strategy, including stewardship activities, sustainability initiatives, and net-zero ambitions.
- Coordinate Climate (TCFD) and Stewardship Code reporting with external advisers, ensuring findings are implemented.
- Monitor and support ESG collateral (e.g., ESG Integrated Reporting) to align with broader company objectives.
2. Governance & Strategy Delivery
- Support the delivery of governance projects aligned with the Trustee’s strategic business plan.
- Assist the governance services team in risk management activities, ensuring structured control frameworks are in place.
- Collaborate with investment and funding committees to enhance pension plan performance and sustainability.

3. Operational & Administrative Excellence
- Prepare committee agendas, papers, minutes, action logs, and governance documentation with precision.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Trustees, advisers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor adviser and supplier performance, budgets, and service delivery to ensure cost efficiency and value for money.
- Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies, including AI and automation opportunities where applicable.
4. Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure full compliance with UK pension regulations, governance frameworks, and DHL Group policies.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members, fostering a culture of best practices.
- Champion a proactive, collaborative, and solutions-focused approach with a focus on sustainability and risk mitigation.
Your Profile
We are looking for a pension governance professional with a strong background in strategic, technical, and ESG-focused roles. Your ideal profile includes:
Essential Criteria
✔ Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and at least 4 years’ relevant experience in:
- Pensions governance
- Trustee secretariat
- Investment management
- Occupational scheme administration
✔ Deep understanding of UK occupational pension schemes, including:
- Regulatory frameworks (Pensions Regulator)
- Governance standards (AC Paymaster)
- Making Pension Tax principioses
✔ First-hand experience supporting Trustee Boards and formal ESG/stewardship committees.
✔ Strong ESG and sustainability expertise, with a track record of influencing net-zero transition and diversity targets.
