Job Description: Pensions Professional
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking a pensions professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is excited by the opportunity to support the delivery of all aspects of our UK trust-based hybrid pension scheme, comprising closed defined benefit and open defined contribution sections, along with our UK self-invested personal pension.
In this varied role, you'll provide operational support, collaborating with the wider Pensions and Benefits team, pension scheme Trustees, and advisers to ensure compliance with legislation and best practices. You’ll also:
- Help manage third-party administrators to ensure efficient pension processes.
- Handle employee and member queries.
- Participate in project work.
- Gain exposure to our global pension offerings.

What You’ll Do
- Assist in all aspects of our UK pension arrangements, establishing recognised pensions expertise within Schroders.
- Support the preparation and review of Trustee meeting papers, completion of meeting actions, and attendance/participation in Trustee meetings as required.
- Ensure compliance with relevant pensions legislation and best practices while assisting in the development and implementation of pension policies and procedures.
- Monitor the pension scheme calendar, ensuring timely completion of key tasks.
- Support trustee-advisor relationships by ensuring clear and regular communication.
- Manage relationships with the third-party administrators, including:
- Serving as the first point of contact for individual cases referred by them or direct member/Trustee queries.
- Handling complaints under the scheme’s internal dispute resolution procedure.
- Overseeing discretionary decisions cases.
- Run the monthly pension scheme contribution cycle, with Payroll and HR, to ensure accurate and timely contributions.
- Draft and review member communications, including the scheme’s biannual member newsletter.
- Coordinate processing of annual bonus waivers.
- Produce annual statements for the Funded Unapproved Retirement Benefit Scheme.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and the Reward, Wellbeing, and Inclusion team as needed.
- Oversee timely payment of invoices and monitor the budget alongside the Pensions and Payroll Manager.
- Proactively identify opportunities to streamline and improve pension processes.

The Knowledge, Experience And Qualifications You Need
- Previous pensions experience (consultancy/administrator or in-house).
- Occupational defined benefit and defined contribution schemes operational experience.
- Strong understanding of pension arrangements, legislative requirements, and best practices.
- Third-party relationship management experience.
- Proficiency in IT skills, particularly Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Excel/data analysis proficiency.
- Clear, effective written and verbal communication.
- Comfort handling confidential/sensitive information.
The Knowledge, Experience And Qualifications That Will Help
- Experience with pension scheme governance.
- Supporting a Trustee Board.
- Relevant professional pensions qualifications or progress toward qualification.
- Self-invested personal pensions policy knowledge, differs from Trustee-based occupational schemes.
