The Vacancy
Our Third Party Administration (TPA) department is a dynamic administration team with a varied portfolio of clients. The team plays a key role in delivering a market-leading service to clients and members across Defined Benefit (DB), Defined Contribution (DC) and CARE pension arrangements.
An exciting opportunity is available to join this department as a Client Manager within the Data Journey team, based in Birmingham, Edinburgh or Glasgow.
What will the role involve?
This role is responsible for delivering pensions data projects across a portfolio of Data Journey clients, ensuring outcomes meet regulatory requirements and client expectations.
The role works closely with clients, internal stakeholders and the wider Data Journey team, building strong relationships and acting as a key point of contact throughout each project. It involves taking ownership of client-facing delivery, overseeing progress, coordinating team input and ensuring work is completed accurately and on time, while supporting high service standards and contributing to client and business development activity.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial focus
- Ensuring all project work is clearly scoped, costed and agreed with clients, with delivery to agreed timelines and budgets
- Driving strong commercial outcomes across the portfolio by managing profitability, identifying efficiencies and mitigating scope creep
- Preparing and managing client billing in line with work delivered
- Identifying opportunities to promote and expand Data Journey services internally and externally
- Supporting business development and contributing to client growth and new business opportunities
Client relationship management
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with a portfolio of clients, acting as a key point of contact
- Managing expectations around service and project delivery through clear and consistent communication
- Planning and overseeing project delivery, providing regular updates to clients and stakeholders
- Collaborating with internal teams, including Project Management and wider TPA, to ensure seamless delivery
- Preparing for and attending client meetings, and following up on actions and outcomes
People leadership
- Leading by example, role-modelling organisational values and promoting an inclusive team environment
- Contributing to resource planning and supporting recruitment activity where required
- Supporting the development and performance of team members through feedback, coaching and career development discussions
- Encouraging engagement, collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team
- Providing line management support, including wellbeing, performance and development conversations
General Responsibilities
- Overseeing and supporting the delivery of high-quality projects in line with service standards and internal processes
- Monitoring project progress across the client portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate delivery
- Providing technical guidance and acting as a point of contact for complex queries
- Adhering to professional standards, quality frameworks and information security policies

What’s required to succeed in this role?
- An Honours degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong technical knowledge of defined benefit pensions and associated legislation, with experience delivering key projects such as GMP equalisation and insurer transactions
- Experience managing client relationships, with confidence in presenting information clearly
- Proven experience managing projects to agreed quality, scope and budget
- Strong commercial awareness, with good negotiation and analytical problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to build and apply knowledge of products and services effectively
- A collaborative leadership approach, with the ability to support and motivate others
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with a focus on delivering results
Ideally, candidates will have started studying towards a professional qualification such as Associate Membership of the Pensions Management Institute, or be interested in doing so. However, applications are also welcome from those with relevant UK pensions experience who can demonstrate a strong understanding of the market.
Applications are welcomed from individuals who may not meet all of the criteria but demonstrate the potential to develop the required skills with support. Additional relevant experience or knowledge not listed is also encouraged.
