Location: Barnsley
Salary: £39,152 to £41,771 per annum (pay award pending)
Contract: 2x Permanent, Full Time

Role Description
As our Pensions Technical Specialist, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical support to multiple service areas within SYPA.
- Monitoring all legal developments in the Local Government Pension Scheme and wider pensions landscape, ensuring the organisation remains compliant and up to date.
- Developing and delivering internal training to casework teams on benefit calculations, covering everything from routine early leavers to complex Lump Sum Allowance (LSA) assessments at retirement.
- Creating and maintaining reference materials such as training manuals and online guides to support the operational teams.
- Enhancing support delivery through innovative online methods, like webinars and training videos.
- Collaborating with the Complaints Resolution Analyst and Data Analyst to address training and data-related issues.
- Assisting the Systems team during testing and implementation of major changes to the pensions administration system, including upgrades and modular adjustments, while providing guidance to ensure compliance with pensions legislation.

Key Requirements
We are seeking a knowledgeable, experienced pensions professional with:
- Extensive technical expertise in Defined Benefit pension schemes and associated legislation.
- Proven ability to interpret complex pensions guidance and deliver clear, engaging technical training for diverse audiences.
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-specialists, including excellent presentation skills.
- Experience in developing training and support materials for colleagues.
- Practical experience using a dedicated pensions administration system to process various pension calculations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and administrative skills along with excellent IT proficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, ensuring effective inter-personal relations with colleagues and clients, while adapting your communication style to suit different needs.

- Educational background: Equivalent to A-Level standard or relevant experience demonstrated.
- Professional qualifications or equivalent knowledge at NVQ Level 4 or relevant business disciplines.
- Willingness to pursue relevant qualifications when needed.
