Role: People Advisor – Operations & Analytics

Location: Birmingham (SCC operates hybrid working, a mix of office and home-based)

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary Package: Competitive salary + extensive company benefits, flexible employee benefits package, and 2 paid-for volunteering days per year

Hours: 9.00 AM – 5.30 PM (Monday–Friday)

Role Purpose

The People Advisor – Operations & Analytics provides Tier 1 HR support, delivering high-quality operational services across the collective colleague lifecycle. The role ensures:

  • Queries are resolved swiftly and accurately
  • Data quality and reporting remain robust and compliant
  • Key HR processes (e.g., family-friendly supports, probation, benefits, manager enablement) are executed smoothly

The incumbent:

  • Contributes to a positive colleague experience
  • Identifies opportunities for systems improvements
  • Works closely with the Romania team to deliver consistent, efficient, and compliant People Operations services

Key Responsibilities

1. Tier 1 HR Support

  • Provide first-line guidance on HR policies, systems, and processes.
  • Triage and support low-complexity ER matters, including:
    • Performance concerns
    • Sickness absence
    • Probation management
    • Conduct resolution
  • Ensure timely progressions while maintaining consistency.
  • Maintain service level agreements (SLAs) for query resolution.
  • Produce clear, accurate, and timely meeting notes to support follow-up actions.
  • Manage and progress family-friendly processes (e.g., maternity, adoption, paternity, shared parental leave).

2. Data Quality, Reporting & Analysis

  • Maintain accurate, high-quality HR data in D365, Eploy, and other HR systems while ensuring compliance and consistency.
  • Manage the People Operations reporting cycle (weekly to annual deadlines) to meet SLA targets.
  • Analyse people data trends and provide insights to SLT (Senior Leadership Team) for strategic decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process refinements.
  • Track and ensure data completeness for:
    • Engagement metrics
    • Colleague lifecycle analytics
    • D365/Eploy records
  • Generate actionable, AI-aware reports (eg. engagement trends, retention rates, absenteeism data).

3. Process, Policy & Operations Support

  • Maintain and update operational SOPs, templates, and checklists based on evolving legislation.
  • Update knowledge bases/FAQs to enhance employee self-service and manager empowerment.
  • Support:
    • Benefits and reward activities (renewals, provider changes).
    • Ongoing manager training sessions (induction/refreshers, toolkit development).
  • Assess training effectiveness through attendance, feedback, and performance outcomes.
  • Identify knowledge/capability training gaps and feed insights into future initiatives.
  • Support queries not answered by existing enablement materials, while acting on continuous improvement feedback.
  • Develop manager toolkits to enable streamlined HR self-service.

4. Colleague Experience & Enablement

  • Enhance key colleague lifecycle points (probation, leave management, wellbeing, exit support).
  • Lead drop-in training sessions to improve HR and policy awareness.
  • Actively participate in culture, belonging, inclusion, volunteering, and social value initiatives.
  • Gather colleague feedback via:
    • Exit interviews
    • Surveys and engagement metrics
  • Oversee proportionate probations, ensuring:
    • On-time reviews
    • Clear communication

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend process improvements based on:
    • Colleague feedback
    • Manager engagement insights
    • Operational data
  • Identify and resolve operational inefficiencies, driving automation and system efficiencies.
  • Support change management for new systems/policy updates, including:
    • Training enhancements
    • Adoption strategies

6. Offshore (Romania) Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Romania-based team on:
    • Day-to-day task coordination
    • Shared workflow alignment
  • Conduct UK-side quality checks for:
    • Redundancy calculations
    • Equivalent remuneration hack 설치 (ELI data)

7. Strategic Project Support

  • Coordinate and deliver operational support for:
    • Large-scale change initiatives
    • Engagement programmes
    • Policy updates
    • Manager capability development

Skills & Experience

Crucial Requirements

  • Generalist HR expertise, including:
    • Core lifecycle processes
    • Policy implementation
    • HR systems management
  • Competent handling of low-complexity employee (ER) matters, such as:
    • Performance concerns
    • Absenteeism management
    • Probation issues
    • Non-complex conduct resolutions
  • Exceptional first-contact resolution skills, providing clear, accurate, and timely guidance.
  • Strong analytical acumen, with:
    • Experience in colleague metrics (e.g., engagement, lifecycle, the ER trends)
  • Confident Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including:
    • Formulas and lookup (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
    • Filters, pivot tables
  • Ability to craft high-quality reports, distill insights, and guide senior stakeholders effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR systems, including:
    • D365, Eploy, Power BI
    • Emphasis on data accuracy, compliance, and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to furnish manager training materials (e.g., inductions, digital toolkits).
  • Admin support experience in surveys, colleague feedback, and engagement initiatives.
  • Proven track record in continuous improvement, automation, or process optimisation.
  • ** Clear communication** (written & sp) skills, explaining HR concepts to:
    • Colleagues
    • Managers
  • Exceptional organisation & time-management, balancing:
    • SLA demands
    • Reporting cycles
    • Joint project deadlines
    • High accuracy while meeting service standards.
  • Attention to detail, especially in data handling, reporting, and notes taking.
  • Ability to develop strong cross-functional relationships:
    • HR and People Operations teams
