People Advisor – Job Description

JOB DETAILS

  • Title: People Advisor
  • Department: People Team
  • Location: Stamford Bridge
  • Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (35 hours per week)
  • Reports to: Head of People Partnering

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a proactive and adaptable People Advisor to support the People Partnering team within a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This role is integral to delivering effective people practices, with a strong focus on Employee Relations (ER), while also developing manager capability and supporting core people processes.

In collaboration with People Partners, you will act as the first point of contact for managers on day-to-day people matters, providing practical support, guidance, and building your expertise. Primarily supporting commercial and revenue-generating functions, you will partner with these teams to:

  • Understand business priorities
  • Support effective people management
  • Enable strong performance outcomes

This role is office-based with expectations for regular in-workplace engagement, where you will:

  • Build relationships with managers and employees
  • Identify challenges and improvement opportunities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee Relations

  • Serve as the first point of contact for managers on a wide range of ER issues, offering timely, practical advice
  • Support the end-to-end management of formal ER processes, including:
    • Sending invitations and arranging formal meetings
    • Preparing documentation
    • Taking accurate, detailed notes in formal meetings
    • Ensuring appropriate follow-up and record-keeping
  • Assist with the following ER cases:
    • Investigations, disciplinary, and grievance processes
    • Probation reviews
    • Flexible working requests
    • Performance management and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs)
    • Sickness absence management (short- and long-term cases)
    • AWOL (absence without leave) processes
    • Arranging and supporting welfare meetings
    • Coordination and follow-up with Occupational Health referrals
    • Collaboration with the Wellbeing Lead and Safeguarding team on wellbeing cases
    • Handling complex, high-level ER cases as delegated by People Partners
  • Log and maintain all ER casework, ensuring up-to-date systems
    • Identify trends in ER activity, escalating insights as needed
  • Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) by embedding inclusive behaviours and decision-making

Manager Capability & People Development

  • Work alongside People Partners and the Learning and Development team to design and deliver:
    • People management training for managers and employees
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers on:
    • Handling people matters with confidence
    • Day-to-day people management practices
  • Develop and share tools, templates, and resources to enhance people management
  • Support Quarterly Team Reviews (QTR) with People Partners, ensuring managers have tools for:
    • Delivering performance ratings
    • Providing constructive feedback
  • Assist during pay review processes with People Partners, People Ops, and Payroll
  • Contribute to people policies and procedures that align with:
    • Legal requirements
    • Best practice, for integration with business areas

Support to People Partners

  • Help with role requisitions and recruitment processes as needed
  • Support People Partners in managing the resourcing process, ensuring:
    • Benchmarking of new/replacement roles
    • Authorisation approvals
  • Provide insights and analysis on key people metrics:
    • ER trends, absence, turnover
  • Strengthen business functions by addressing challenges
  • Work with People Partners to:
    • Deliver engagement survey outcomes
    • Set departmental objectives
  • Offer administrative support to prioritise People Partnering initiatives
  • Assist in exit interviews with People Partners and People Ops
  • Contribute to People initiatives and projects supporting:
    • Chelsea’s business priorities, values, and culture
  • Represent the People Team in cross-departmental groups, integrating people considerations
  • Stay updated on industry best practices
  • Ensure consistent and fair policy application across the business

  • Relationships: Builds and maintains credible relationships with managers, employees, and the People Team to support partnership
  • ER Case Management: Handles timely, organised, compliant ER cases with:
    • Accurate documentation
    • Minimal business risk
  • Support Quality: Delivers consistent, high-quality support across ER processes, ensuring:
    • A professional experience for all stakeholders
  • Manager Upskilling: Supports and upskills managers to:
    • Increase confidence
    • Apply consistent people practices
  • Work Quality: Provides accurate, prioritised work across multi Responsibilties, adapting efficiently while maintaining high standards

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills & Experience

  • Experience as an HR Advisor (or equivalent) in a People/HR environment
  • Strong understanding of Employee Relations and employment law
  • Exceptional organisation and attention to detail in managing:
    • Case documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills, with:
    • Relationship-building
    • Clear guidance provision
  • Comfort handling sensitive and confidential information
  • (Desirable) CIPD qualification (or working towards it)
  • (Desirable) Experience in fast-paced commercial, retail, or hospitality industries
