RotaCloud is a growing technology company based in the heart of York, providing employee management software to thousands of businesses across the UK and worldwide.
We’re looking for a People Business Partner to join our People team and play an important role in how People support shows up across RotaCloud: trusted, human, commercially aware and genuinely useful.
Working closely with our Head of People, you’ll support managers, employees and the wider People team across everything from day-to-day advice and employee relations to policy updates, manager coaching and continuous improvements.
What you’ll be doing:
- Working closely with the Head of People to support the delivery of the People function across RotaCloud
- Acting as a trusted point of contact for managers and employees on day-to-day and more complex people matters
- Giving clear, balanced advice that helps people understand their options, risks and next steps
- Coaching managers through performance concerns, absence issues, difficult conversations and employee relations matters
- Managing ER cases including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, absence and performance processes
- Helping managers address issues early and choose the right approach, whether informal, formal or something in between
- Supporting our HR Advisor through guidance, context sharing and being a sounding board
- Keeping our handbook, policies and people guidance up to date as legislation, best practice and business needs change
- Communicating relevant people updates clearly across the business
- Spotting themes, risks or recurring issues and helping improve how we support our people

You’ll thrive in this role if you:
- You’re confident building relationships with stakeholders at different levels across different teams
- You enjoy variety and are comfortable balancing day-to-day support with more sensitive or complex matters
- You can stay calm, thoughtful and practical when things are moving quickly, or there are different views involved
- You’re comfortable working in a small People team where you’ll be close to the detail and able to make a visible impact
- You have a good sense of judgement and know when to ask questions, offer challenge or escalate
- You take a thoughtful approach to People work, balancing policy, fairness, risk and what makes sense in the situation
- You’re naturally curious about the business and want to understand how People decisions affect both employees and commercial outcomes
What we're looking for:
- Experience in a People role supporting managers and employees through a broad range of day-to-day and more sensitive people matters.
- Strong employee relations experience, including performance, absence, conduct, capability, disciplinary and grievance matters.
- Confidence supporting formal People processes such as investigations, hearings, outcomes and case documentation.
- Coaching mindset and critical listening skills, with the ability to understand what is really driving an issue.
- Sound judgement, with the ability to consider context, risk, fairness and business needs.
- Ability to build trust with managers, employees and stakeholders at different levels of the business, providing advice that is clear, balanced and useful.
- Good working knowledge of employment law, with an interest in keeping up to date with relevant changes including reviewing and updating HR policies and handbook content.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain sensitive or complex matters clearly.

Where you’ll be working
This is a hybrid role with 2/3 days a week spent in our open-plan office in the centre of historic York and also the flexibility of working in your own home.
