People Operations Specialist / HR Operations Lead (6 Month Fixed-Term Contract)

Role Overview

Type: 6 Month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) Salary: Circa £75,000 pro rata (negotiable) Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days in office) Company: Major UK Media Publishing Group Reports to: Director of HR Operations

Our client, one of the UK's most established and widely recognised media publishing groups—with a portfolio of major national brands—is modernising its HR function. They seek an experienced People Operations Specialist to drive operational excellence, process improvement, and digital optimisation over a fixed 6-month period.

This is a hands-on contributor role for someone passionate about the detail of HR operations—processes, data, and systems—who wants to make an immediate, measurable impact.


Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Support operational excellence in HR service delivery, focusing on process improvement, data integrity, and digital optimisation.
  • Collaborate closely with the shared services team, observing current practices, proposing improvements, and ensuring stakeholder communication.
  • Review and optimise existing HR processes to enhance efficiency and employee experience.
  • Drive automation and standardisation across HR workflows, leveraging existing tools to their fullest potential.
  • Maintain accurate, consistent, and GDPR-compliant HR data through regular systems audits and corrective action.
  • Design and execute exception reports to flag issues such as:
    • Duplicate records
    • Conflicting effective dates
    • Salary anomalies
  • Identify root causes of data inconsistencies and implement practical process improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure full GDPR and labour law compliance, with a clear audit trail for all data handling decisions.

Essential Requirements

Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years in an HR Operations role, with a strong process improvement track record and a shift toward digitally optimised service delivery.
  • Proven expertise with HRIS systems—especially Workday, with an understanding of systems integrations considered a huge advantage.
  • Advanced data analysis and reporting skills, including:
    • Deep comfort navigating and troubleshooting complex data
    • Proficiency in Excel and dashboard tools
    • Ability to challenge inefficiencies and propose simple, scalable solutions (not over-engineered fixes).
  • Clear communication ability to:
    • Translate technical data and findings for non-technical HR colleagues.
    • Present insights persuasively to leadership.
  • Agile project management skills to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Contract Details

  • Duration: 6 months FTC, with possible extension based on performance and business needs.
  • Salary: Circa £75,000 pro rata (adjustable for exceptional, relevant experience).
  • Work Arrangement: London-based, with a hybrid model requiring minimum 3 office days per week.
  • Reporting Line: Directly to the Director of HR Operations, providing visibility and influence from the outset.
