Five Rivers Child Care is a social enterprise with a clear purpose: turning children’s lives around. We provide high-quality fostering, residential, education and clinical services that help children and young people recover, flourish and fulfil their potential.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced People Partner to join us on a 12-month maternity cover contract, supporting our Children’s Residential Service. You will partner with operational leaders and managers to provide practical, values-led people support across our residential homes.
You will help managers build strong, child-focused teams by advising on employee relations, absence, performance, engagement, workforce planning and organisational change.
You will be based at our head office in Salisbury, and your time will be split between head office and nationwide travel to our homes.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing trusted people advice and coaching to managers and senior leaders.
- Supporting employee relations casework, including absence, conduct, capability, grievance and performance matters.
- Helping managers take a fair, consistent and values-led approach to people management.
- Using people data to identify workforce trends, risks and opportunities.
- Supporting recruitment, retention, engagement and workforce planning.
- Contributing to change projects, policy implementation and continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
