Job Overview
About The Role
At AO, we want to make sure our customers are happy. When they have a smile on their face, we know we’ve done a good job. Did you know we have more 5* Trustpilot reviews than any other UK electrical retailer? We're rated ‘Excellent’ overall and have over 1 million customer reviews!
But what happens when our customers' appliances reach the end of their life? That's where AO Recycling comes in - a business built on innovation, sustainability, and finding better ways to do things every single day.
Every year, thousands of fridges, washing machines, and other large domestic appliances need responsible recycling. At our specialist recycling facilities in Telford, we're turning yesterday's appliances into tomorrow's resources, recovering valuable materials, reducing waste, and helping build a more sustainable future.
We're looking for a People Partner, based at our Telford site and reporting to the Group Recycling Director. You'll be a trusted advisor to the leadership team, helping shape the people agenda, from developing leaders and building capability to driving engagement, performance, and culture. You'll play a key role in helping our teams thrive and our business grow.
This isn't a role for someone who likes sitting on the sidelines. We need someone who's curious, commercially minded, and loves being close to the action. Someone who enjoys building relationships, influencing decisions, and rolling their sleeves up to solve problems.
Most importantly, you'll help create an environment where our AOers can be at their best, because when our people succeed, our business does too.
Our people are our superpower, and we’re unstoppable when we’re together! We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite, 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration, and growth.
Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing
- Partnering with the Recycling Leadership Team to develop and deliver people plans that support business objectives and future growth.
- Building strong, trusted relationships with managers at all levels, providing coaching, challenge, and support when they need it most.
- Supporting managers to create high-performing teams through effective performance management, engagement, and development initiatives.
- Enabling line managers to be the best they can, through coaching, guidance, and expert support.
- Developing people initiatives which support business priorities, through your commercially focused support and problem-solving.
- Using people data and insight to identify trends, solve problems, and improve business performance.
- Supporting organisational change and helping teams navigate through periods of growth and transformation.
- Partnering with Talent Acquisition to attract and retain talent across sites.
- Driving talent development, identifying talent gaps, and working proactively to address them.
- Leading, coaching, and developing a People Advisor.
- Championing engagement, wellbeing, and a positive, inclusive culture.
- Working collaboratively across the full people team on supporting business-wide activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
