People & Payroll Specialist

The Role: People & Payroll Coordinator (12-Month Fixed Term Contract, Remote - UK)

Suppose the responsible securing of critical payroll, balancing tactical execution and strategic oversight for approximately 3,000 employees. You’ll collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and internal/external stakeholders to deliver accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services across the entire employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing

    • Calculate and reconcile adjustments such as back pay, termination calculations, and statutory leave (regular, sickness, maternity/paternity).
    • Validate calculations and resolve discrepancies to finalise payroll.
    • Cross-check employment life cycle data to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Data & System Administration

    • Maintain and update payroll records within Zellis.
    • Process statutory reports and documentation (e.g., P45s, court orders).
    • Manage holiday arrangements on exit for departing employees to ensure equitable payroll reporting.

  • Compliance & Overpayments

    • Administer formal payroll overpayment procedures.
    • Handle expenses, advances and discretionary payments where appropriate, ensuring adherence to internal controls and audit standards.
    • Resolve irregularities or exemptions per HR legal and company policy.
  • Stakeholder Support

    • Act as the indispensable point of contact for resolving complex payroll enquiries for employees and managers.
    • Provide operational payroll cover for non-core systems like Pensions and Expenses during high-volume periods.

Key Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven expertise in payroll administration, with deep knowledge of UK payroll legislation (PAYE, National Insurance, statutory benefits).
  • High analytical ability with meticulous attention to detail for handling complex calculations and data validation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to clarify intricate financial matters clearly.
  • Experience managing sensitive, confidential data ethically.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Zellis or similar payroll software in a shared HR services environment.
