People Systems Lead (Workday) - UK Location
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is seeking a People Systems Lead (Workday) based in the United Kingdom.
About the Role
This highly cross-functional role sits at the intersection of HR systems, engineering, and people operations, owning the performance and evolution of a complex Workday ecosystem. You will ensure Workday runs as a reliable backbone for HR, managers, and employees while continuously improving how people data flows across Finance, IT, payroll, and analytics platforms.
Acting as both operator and builder, you will:
- Design integrations
- Automate manual processes
- Strengthen system architecture with an engineering mindset
- Partner closely with HR leadership to shape a seamless employee experience driven by scalable, well-governed systems.
The role requires balancing day-to-day support with long-term platform strategy and innovation.
Accountabilities
You will own the end-to-end stability, evolution, and optimization of the Workday ecosystem, ensuring it supports business goals aligned with HR operations. This includes:
- Acting as a technical authority across integrations, configuration, reporting, and system governance
- Enabling HR teams to operate efficiently and independently
- Shaping system strategy while driving automation and systemic improvement
- Partnering with HR leadership to align Workday capabilities with business and people strategy
- Continuously improving employee experience through system design and reconfiguration
Key Responsibilities:
- Own Workday administration, including business process configuration, security models, calculated fields, and resolution of complex data integrity issues
- Design, build, and maintain integrations across Workday and enterprise systems using tools such as Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, APIs, and middleware platforms
- Drive automation initiatives by identifying manual processes and replacing them with scalable, event-driven solutions
- Develop reporting and analytics capabilities using Workday reporting tools, SQL, and scripting to support people analytics and business decision making
- Lead release management, testing, and impact analysis across Workday updates
- Maintain governance, compliance, and documentation standards, ensuring GDPR alignment and audit readiness
- Lead and develop a small team, setting priorities, coaching performance, and fostering technical excellence

Requirements
This role requires:
- 7+ years of experience in HRIS, HR systems, or Workday-focused roles with hands-on configuration and support expertise
- Strong hands-on expertise in Workday and HR systems, with an engineering-oriented mindset
- Ability to operate across both technical and business domains while managing integrations, data flows, and system architecture
Technical Proficiencies:
- Workday integrations (including Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, RaaS, and SOAP/REST APIs)
- Workday HCM modules, including security configuration and business processes
- SQL proficiency with exposure to scripting (preferred: Python or JavaScript)
- Experience designing or managing integrations across HR, Finance, payroll, IAM, or data platforms
- Familiarity with middleware/iPaaS tools (e.g., MuleSoft, Workato, Boomi) is highly desirable

- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to data accuracy and system integrity
- Excellent stakeholder management capability, collaborating across HR, IT, and business teams
- Experience mentoring or leading small technical teams is advantageous
