People Systems Lead (Workday) – United Kingdom

This role sits at the intersection of HR systems, engineering, and people operations, owning the performance and evolution of a complex Workday ecosystem. You will ensure Workday runs as a reliable backbone for HR, managers, and employees while continuously improving how people data flows across Finance, IT, payroll, and analytics platforms. Acting as both operator and builder, you will design integrations, automate manual processes, and strengthen system architecture with an engineering mindset. You will partner closely with HR leadership to shape a seamless employee experience driven by scalable, well-governed systems. The role requires balancing day-to-day support with long-term platform strategy and innovation. It is highly cross-functional, combining technical depth with strong stakeholder collaboration. Your work will directly impact operational efficiency, data integrity, and the employee experience across the business.
Accountabilities
You will own the end-to-end stability, evolution, and optimization of the Workday ecosystem, ensuring it supports both HR operations and broader business goals. Key responsibilities include:
- Act as a technical authority across integrations, configuration, reporting and system governance, enabling HR teams to operate efficiently and independently.
- Shape system strategy, driving automation and improving data flows across the enterprise.
- Partner with HR leadership to align Workday capabilities with business and people strategy, improving employee experience through system design and reconfiguration.
- Own Workday administration, including business process configuration, security models, calculated fields, and resolution of complex data integrity issues.
- Design, build, and maintain integrations across Workday and enterprise systems using Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, APIs, and middleware platforms.
- Drive automation initiatives, identifying and replacing manual processes with scalable, event-driven solutions.
- Develop reporting and analytics capabilities using Workday reporting tools, SQL, and scripting to support people analytics and business decision-making.
- Lead release management, testing, and impact analysis across Workday updates, ensuring smooth system evolution.
- Maintain governance, compliance, and documentation standards, ensuring GDPR alignment and audit readiness.
- Lead and develop a small team, setting priorities, coaching performance, and fostering technical excellence.

Requirements
This role requires strong hands-on expertise in Workday and HR systems, combined with an engineering-oriented mindset and the ability to navigate both technical and business domains.
- 7+ years of experience in HRIS, HR systems, or Workday-focused roles, with hands-on configuration and support experience.
- Strong expertise in Workday integrations (Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, APM, RaaS, SOAP/REST APIs).
- Solid understanding of Workday HCM modules, security configuration, and business processes.
- Strong technical capability in SQL, with exposure to scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript preferred.
- Experience designing or managing integrations across HR, Finance, payroll, IAM, or data platforms.
- Familiarity with middleware/iPaaS tools (e.g., MuleSoft, Workato, Boomi) is highly desirable.
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and system designs.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, with an attention to data accuracy and system integrity.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating across HR, IT, and business stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring or leading small technical teams is a strong advantage.
