Location: NPS 77/79 Duke St, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 1RP


About the Role

What You’ll Do

As a Community Payback Supervisor, you’ll support offenders serving community sentences through unpaid work placements. Your everyday responsibilities include:

  • Supervising groups of offenders, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.
  • Transporting people or equipment using service vehicles (requires a full UK manual driving licence).
  • Motivating and guiding individuals to fulfil their community payback obligations, such as:
    • Clearing overgrowth or maintaining public spaces.
    • Restoring facilities (e.g., playgrounds, sports halls).
    • Graffiti removal, litter picking, or environmental projects.
  • Demonstrating best practices and ensuring adherence to guidelines.
  • Balancing fast-paced, varied work with wellbeing support, alongside frequent weekend shifts.

Key Details

Working Pattern

  • Shift-based role aligning with 7-day community projects.
  • Frequent weekend shifts (profit-sharing applies—50% weekend pay hike).
  • Evenings may be required occasionally.
  • Pro-rata pay starts at £28,064 (minimum). Annual pay progression via a Competency-Based Framework (CBF) in line with Civil Service civic service guidance.

Eligibility & Criteria

Probation Employment Pathway (PEP)

Who This Is For Eligible candidates include those with recent criminal histories (past 10 years), such as:

  • Custodial release from prison.
  • Convictions for community sentences.
  • Conditional discharges or out-of-court disposals.

Note: PEP applicants are processed via Exception 2 Scheme (2-year fixed-term contracts).

Mandatory Requirements

  • Full UK manual driving licence (automatic licence holders are not accepted).
  • Right to work in the UK as per Civil Service nationality rules.
  • Security clearance (Baseline Personnel Security Standard checks required).

  • Managing quality service, ensuring productive, supervised work.
