Performance Analyst
Senior Performance Analyst – Asset Optimisation
At Octopus Energy Trading, we’re reshaping the future of energy—by creating flexible, sustainable, and efficient energy systems that accelerate global Net Zero goals. Driven by the growth of renewables and rapid decarbonisation across heating and transport, new flexibility in the grid isn’t just important—it’s critical.
We’re fostering a home for bold, unconventional thinkers who bring diverse experience and cutting-edge ideas to shape our future. We’re now looking for an analytical, data-driven enthusiast to join our Asset Optimisation Team. If you love digging into data and turning complex challenges into meaningful strategies—this role is for you.
The Performance Analyst does this
You’ll be the ultimate source of truth for understanding how well our flexible assets perform—whether grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or residential technologies. Your work will directly influence our development priorities, guiding where we should focus next.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Building and refining reporting and monitoring tools: Create automated, scalable solutions to assess every aspect of our optimisations, from algorithmic strategies to trader-driven decisions. Ensure these tools track performance, accuracy, and impact efficiently.
- In-depth strategy analysis: Break down technical and business trends, pinpoint strengths and weaknesses, and recommend improvements.
- Stakeholder communication: Translate intricate insights into clear, actionable stories for traders, developers, operations teams—tailoring complexity based on the audience.
- Performance data governance: Improve data quality, accessibility, and usability across our systems.
- Opportunity spotting: Identify gaps in our operational and monitoring framework where automation or strategic shifts could drive better results.
- Market research & strategy: Analyse competitors, emerging tech, and evolving demand trends to support future-proof decisions.
- Cross-team collaboration: Foster strong relationships with commercial teams, data scientists, traders, and project managers to keep us moving in the right direction.
- Agile growth: Take on evolving responsibilities as the role expands and new opportunities emerge.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
