Are you passionate about data, able to use your skills to develop and maintain reliable data systems and turn complex information into compelling insight? If you are keen to use your expertise in a public service committed to serving and protecting the community, we are looking for a skilled data professional to join our Performance and Insight team.
About The Role
You will build and maintain databases, data warehouses, pipelines and automated Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes that facilitate reporting, analysis and insight using internal data sets from the Service’s systems, and external data shared with the Service or from the public domain.
You will ensure that databases and data warehouses are populated accurately, accessible and efficiently structured for reporting and analysis. You will make use of SQL-based data engineering and automated workflows.
You will provide high-quality analysis and insight to support decision-making. You will also lead on cyclical reporting, both internal and to external stakeholders, and prepare responses to ad-hoc data requests, including Freedom of Information requests.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain databases and data warehouse structures to support reporting and analysis, ensuring compliance with the Service’s data governance, quality and security policies.
- Develop, optimise and maintain SQL based ETL processes to populate databases and data warehouse structures, to ensure performance, reliability and scalability and facilitate timely, accurate reporting.
- Improve governance processes by developing, documenting and maintaining automated workflows and ETL processes with associated error handling. This will benefit administration and uptime of key data for reporting and analysis purposes.
- Complete ad hoc imports into, and updates of, SQL data tables, SharePoint repositories and other internal data sources to ensure timely availability of non-automated data sources for reporting purposes.
- Develop and maintain auditing and monitoring for existing and new automated ETL processes to identify failures or data quality issues promptly and support rapid resolution.
- Maintain processes for the anonymisation and deletion of data in line with the Service’s data retention and information governance policies.
- Use data analysis and visualisation tools to analyse data, identify trends, correlations and outliers and produce clear, compelling outputs tailored to different audiences.
- Validate data quality by identifying issues and working with data owners to address root causes, ensuring accurate and reliable data is used for reporting and decision making.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, data models and process flow diagrams, to support transparency, maintainability, auditability and business continuity.
- Respond to internal and external requests for information accurately and in a timely manner, in compliance with Service policies and statutory requirements, including preparing responses to Freedom of Information requests.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
