Performance & Non-Functional Testing Lead
Contract | Remote (UK) with Monthly Onsite Travel | Initial Contract to End of 2026
We're supporting a leading financial services organisation on a large-scale cloud transformation programme and are looking for an experienced Performance & Non-Functional Testing Lead to define and drive the end-to-end performance testing strategy across a complex enterprise environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll shape the overall non-functional testing capability, ensuring cloud-based services are scalable, resilient, secure, and ready for production. You'll work closely with Architecture, Engineering, DevOps, Product and Delivery teams to embed performance testing into modern CI/CD pipelines and provide clear quality and risk insight throughout the delivery lifecycle.
The Role
You'll own the Performance & Non-Functional Testing strategy across the programme, leading the approach for validating system performance, resilience and operational readiness across cloud-native platforms.
This is an opportunity to influence testing standards, tooling, governance and engineering practices while working on a highly visible enterprise transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the programme-wide Performance & Non-Functional Testing strategy and roadmap.
- Lead testing across load, stress, volume, resilience, failover, disaster recovery and high availability scenarios.
- Translate non-functional requirements into measurable testing outcomes.
- Select appropriate testing tools and lead proof of concepts where required.
- Embed Performance & Non-Functional Testing into Agile delivery teams and CI/CD pipelines.
- Produce dashboards, KPIs and executive reporting on quality, performance and release readiness.
- Analyse system behaviour using logs, profiling tools and monitoring platforms to identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements.
- Lead and mentor Performance Testing engineers while promoting engineering best practice.
- Collaborate with Architects, DevOps, Product Owners and Engineering teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Ensure operational acceptance, audit, resilience and compliance testing are fully planned and executed.

Required Experience
We're looking for someone with proven experience leading Performance & Non-Functional Testing within large-scale enterprise environments. You'll ideally have experience with:
- Defining enterprise Performance & Non-Functional Testing strategies.
- Cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, LoadRunner or NeoLoad.
- Containerised and cloud-native applications.
- Performance testing for APIs, messaging platforms and event-driven architectures.
- Python, Java, Scala or similar scripting/programming languages.
- Database performance analysis, tuning and optimisation.
- Graph databases (Neo4j or similar).
- CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- Agile delivery within complex transformation programmes.
- Leading teams and mentoring Performance Testing engineers.

Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Identity & Access Management (IAM) platforms.
- GitLab CI/CD and GitOps.
- AppDynamics, Datadog or cloud monitoring platforms.
- Pub/Sub or MQ technologies.
- Docker and Kubernetes performance testing.
- ServiceNow, Active Directory and cloud integrations.
- SaaS platforms and policy-as-code testing.
- DevSecOps environments.
