Perinatal Mental and Infant Mental Health Practitioner – Caseload Role

About the Role
You’ll be joining a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality, tailored interventions for perinatal mental health and infant mental health, supporting women with moderate to severe mental health difficulties during the prenatal and postnatal periods.
Team & Service Purpose
The team provides:
- Specialised perinatal mental health consultations
- Attachment-based interventions
- Training and clinical supervision
- Development of standards and awareness in mother and infant mental health care across both universal and specialist services
The service ensures equitable access to care and actively engages with hard-to-reach groups, focusing on:
- Differences in diversity
- Strengthening collaboration with statutory, voluntary, and community sectors
Core Responsibilities
Clinical Work
- Manage a defined caseload of women with moderate-to-severe perinatal mental health conditions.
- Conduct initial multi-disciplinary assessments (MDT assessments) for referred cases.
- Provide duty practice coverage (rotational basis, as required).
- Develop and contribute to care plans through active involvement in MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) meetings to ensure safe and effective interventions.
- Raise the profile of perinatal mental health by liaising with stakeholders, including:
- Other health professionals (e.g., midwives, GPs, mental health teams)
- Women, birthing people, families
- Carers
- Statutory and voluntary sector organisations

- Coordinate workload prioritisation, aligning clinical responsibilities with individual and collective service demands.

- Participate in a robust organisation-wide practice supervision model.
- Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) (e.g., perinatal mental health training).
Key Requirements
Professional Qualifications
Applicants must have a core professional qualification, including:
- Qualifying degrees or registration as Nurses, Social Workers, Midwives, Occupational Therapists (or equivalent)
Experience & Skills
- Experience in mental health or perinatal care preferred (though not mandatory).
- Experience or ability to work with women affected by severe mental health conditions.
- Strong desire to learn emerging attachment-based and trauma-informed care practices.
- Travel is essential (post covers Cheshire West, but team covers wider CWP footprint—willingness to travel/displace — is imperative).
Reporting, Remote & Flexible Working
- The role will include remote work or a hybrid model with prescribed office days.
- The contract is fixed-term, ending on: 5th May 2027.
