Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

Exciting opportunities have arisen within our expanding and innovative Perioperative care team at UHS. The post holder will work within the Perioperative care service, helping to ensure that patients are fully optimised prior to surgery to improve their experience, reduce perioperative risks and contribute to reducing elective surgery waiting times.

The Perioperative care service at UHS comprises of surgical Pre-Assessment, the Perioperative anaemia service, Cardio-pulmonary exercise testing, Prehabilitation, fit for surgery school and a Shared decision making service. We are also expanding our current early screening programme to ensure appropriate referral of patients to the new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre. Early Screening will increase both the number of patients receiving a perioperative risk screening and the number of patients receiving optimisation prior to surgery, providing benefits to the patients and the trust.

Currently the focus of this role will be to cover the Pre-Assessment service at Southampton General Hospital with the view to work across sites at Lymington and Royal South Hants (once you are trained and competent to work independently).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
