Orthopaedic Scrub Theatre Practitioner / Surgical First Assistant Spire Wellesley, Southend | Part Time (30 hours/week) | No nights | ££3000 joining bonus
About the Role
Spire Wellesley, a modern private hospital serving Essex, is seeking an experienced Orthopaedic Scrub Theatre Practitioner / Surgical First Assistant (SFA) to join their dynamic theatre team. This multi-speciality role offers a £3000 joining bonus, supports professional development, and delivers care across a diverse clinic environment.
The hospital’s 3 state-of-the-l-art theatres (including 2 laminar flow), endoscopy unit, and 33-bed surgical ward serve specialties including Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, and more. Recent refurbishments have elevated theatre technology, creating an engaged and challenging work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- In a capacity as a Registered Nurse or ODP, provide scrub support across multiple surgical specialities to enhance patient care outcomes.
- Demonstrate versatility in assisting, learning, and refining procedural techniques under supervision (including general surgery, ophthalmology, bariatrics, urology, gynaecology, spinal, plastics, ENT, vascular).
- Work collaboratively within a high-demand, multi-specialty theatre team, ensuring seamless assisting care.
- Uphold comprehensive patient safety protocols across all procedures.

Essential Requirements
✅ Regulation: NMC or HCPC-registered nurse or ODP (no restrictions or conditions on PIN). ✅ Experience: Minimum 3 years scrub experience in an operating theatre. ✅ QR codeability: SFA qualification attained. ✅ Soft Skills: Patient-centred, compassionate, and excellent communicator (manual dexterity strongly valued).
