Dorset Travel

Dorset Travel coordinate the transport provision for children and young people with additional needs within Dorset as well as out of county. The team also supply and support transport need for Mainstream, Child Care as well as Adults.

Vacancy

The vacancy is for a Peripatetic Passenger Assistant living in the Weymouth Area contracted at approximately 20 hours per week - Term Time Only commencing at £13.05 per hour.

Role

The role of a Passenger Assistant is to support children and young people providing additional assistance in maintaining a safe environment on the journey from/to home/school. This vacancy is for a Peripatetic Passenger Assistant from the Weymouth Area to cover Regular Passenger Assistant absence. There is a requirement to travel if required.

  • Candidates need to be available morning and afternoon to coincide with school opening and closing times with all holiday leave to be taken in the school holidays.

Requirements

Dorset Travel is looking for caring, flexible, and responsible passenger assistant who has:

  • Knowledge of moderate and complex learning needs.
  • An understanding of safeguarding children.
  • Recognition of a hazard and how to report.
  • Customer Care.

You must be physically fit with the ability to run, bend, stretch, push, pull, lift, carry, and kneel to provide the care required for the position of passenger assistant.

Training

Dorset Travel is also an accredited training centre with experienced and qualified trainers, new staff will be invited to a full induction training course, providing the tools and knowledge to enable you to work safely and professionally.

Peripatetic Passenger Assistants are required to undertake additional Medical Training:

  • Administration of Buccal Midazolam
  • Application of Epi Pen

Salary

We Base The Pro-rata Salary On

  • the number of hours
  • the number of weeks worked
  • paid annual leave entitlement for an employee under 5 years’ service

In the first year of service this salary may need to be adjusted to ensure you are paid accurately to reflect your holiday entitlement. A similar adjustment may be made at the point your employment ends to ensure that you are paid accurately for the number of days worked in any academic year.

Requirements

Please note you will need to have Business Insurance as well as use of your own vehicle in order to undertake this role as well as attend Induction and Refresher Training.
