The Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Primary Care Department for a Personal Assistant to join the Public Dental Services team.
Responsibilities:
The post holder will:
- Provide a high-level personal assistant support to the Director of Dentistry
- Offer comprehensive administrative support to the Public Dental Service
- Ensure the delivery of an effective, efficient, and quality service at all times

The Candidate
Requirements:
You will require one of the following qualifications or experience:
- Recognised qualification in:
- HNC Business Administration
- SVQ Level 3 in Administration
- Significant equivalent experience in an alternative context
Key Skills & Attributes:
- Conversant with office procedures and efficiently handling diverse workloads
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages
- Excellent communication and organisation skills
Location, Working Pattern & Contract Duration
Key Details:
- Location: Based at The Balfour
- Hours: Part-time (~27 hours per week)
- Contract Type: Fixed-Term (for 12 months) due to the substantive postholder’s return from maternity leave
- Residency Requirement: Must live and reside in the UK throughout employment with NHS Orkney
Salary & Benefits
Compensation
- Salary: Band 4 position
- Distant Islands Allowance: £1,719 pro rata per annum (applicable to those residing on Orkney)
- Note: NHS Scotland salaries are higher than those in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
